Bank 1 left or right?
Bank 1 left or right?
Ok so after some clarification......
Is bank 1 the bank that cylinder 1 is on? ie v6 or v8 1,3,5,7 bank 1 and 2,4,6,8 bank 2?
Or is bank 1 the drivers side bank?
Because on a ecotec cylinder 1 is LHS
Alloytec is #1 is on RHS
304 on RHS
and LS on LHS?
The reason i ask is because for arguments sake i do a scan on a VE V6 and get a P2254 fault (RHR HO2S (bank 1 sensor 2) ground circuit) and need to replace that sensor i would replace the post cat RHS O2.
But if i did a scan of a VE V8 and get a P2254 fault which says (RHR HO2S (bank 1 sensor 2) ground circuit) the LS engines #1 is on the LHS
So not sure of which bank is considered bank 1 if there was a generic bank?
Thoughts?

Re: Bank 1 left or right?
Im interested in the correct answer to this question as I go through this often when diagnosing faults, the method i use to work it out is to unplug a sensor to check which is which...
According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...

It is an interesting conundrum!
Re: Bank 1 left or right?
Yeah a definitive answer would be good, jacking the car up to pull a o2 plug to re-scan obviously isnt the most professional approach especailly when the customer is standing there watching hahaBiggvl wrote:Im interested in the correct answer to this question as I go through this often when diagnosing faults, the method i use to work it out is to unplug a sensor to check which is which...

could have standardized banks when they standardized OBD2 protocols haha
Re: Bank 1 left or right?
Short of that, one of us each find a ecotec, alloytec, Lsx, and 304 and all pull the drivers O2 and scan and record our results hahaimmortality wrote:It is an interesting conundrum!

file:///C:/Users/User/Documents/PDF's/Holden/holden_ls1%20training%20manual.pdf
hopefully that link loads correctly
page 49 says RH O2 sensor is bank 2 but the picture indicates that the right hand exhaust is the exhaust on the RHS if facing the front of the vehicle which would mean the passengers side of car.
But the VT to VY workshop manual has the LS1 V8 motors cylinder #2 on the left hand side of the engine if facing it from the front again, which is drivers side??????

I'm 99% sure that bank 1 is always the bank cylinder 1 is on which cylinder 1 if in v formation is generally always the cylinder that's closest to the front of the motor(haven't seen this disproven yet).

jaguar has their v12 and straight sixes with cylinder 1 at the back

That's what I have been led to believe. Holden V8 are drivers side Chevs are passenger side, never checked the V6 orientation though.VX L67 Getrag wrote:I'm 99% sure that bank 1 is always the bank cylinder 1 is on which cylinder 1 if in v formation is generally always the cylinder that's closest to the front of the motor(haven't seen this disproven yet).

Did you have a look at that link in my post? It's the Holden technical manual.MAGP wrote:That's what I have been led to believe. I think they may have screwed if up? It doesn't correspond to the theory that bank 1 is cylinder 1??
