Maf or Mafless

Post by benk »

Have heard a lot of people talk about going mafless on modified cars and was wondering what the advantages/disadvantages between running with or without a MAF sensor?

well i've never gone mafless as such but i have run an 808 computer on an ecotec :D

that aside, i can tell you this:

mafless:
+ easier to tune
+ good if you have maxed out the MAF
- not quiet as good a tune but does work ok

maf:
+ can handle alot of changes before needing to be re-tuned
+ more control over fuelling
- can be restrictive to engine performance
- alot harder to tune than a map based system
- alot of people talk negatively about them due to previous point.

at the end of the day im certainly no pro on maf or mafless but thats my experience!

I'll second Holden 202's reply.
The MAF tune is a lot more more complex, but if you can get your head around it and a decent xdf it is really good.
Biggest difference I've seen, is that with MAF many tables interact with each other, especially for things like Power Enrichment, you can make a change that fixes one problem but creates 2 new ones.

Additionally, for commodre based Delco's, wityh the introduction of the MAF they also went to sequential injection. Nothing in it power wise, but improvements at idle.

Whichever direction you go, there are plenty of people on this forum who will try and help out.

Good Luck,
