New XDFs for 12202088 Series_2 and 12225074

Post by Ken »

I've had the need for an XDF for a 12202088 Series_2 OS and found that the only "mostly complete" one was written for the US tunes,
being that the units in a lot of entries were written with units based on Deg F or Ft Lbs torque, plus some math calcs were close, not
exact, so a couple of months ago I set out to write one with as many entries as I could find in various other XDFs, and then find the entries that were listed in efilive though not found in any XDFs and add them for completion, which also led to me finding the internal differences between the 12202088 and 12225074 OSs.
What I found was a 2 byte entry in the 12225074 Engine Calibration segment, that if removed with a hex editor, then 2 zero bytes
added to the end of the Eng Cal segment to keep it's size correct, the entire segment can be run in a Series 2 12202088 OS.
I've been driving My WH for the last 2 1/2 months after having done such, with zero problems at all, yet running the entire VY 285KW
tune for the last 4 years has had 2 common problems that I thought was a hardware issue, not software.
First problem was the IAC would fail every now and then, approx once a month, I'd start the car only to have it hunt at around 400rpm,
turn the ignition off then restart it, and all would be fine.
Changed it thinking it was on it's way out, only to find it did the same thing, yet no fail codes were ever logged.
The other odd thing that was randomly playing games was the traction control light would remain on when starting the engine, and
couldn't be turned off with the traction control button on the console, again, turn the ignition off, then restart and all was working.

Odd thing though when I started the engine for the first time after putting the entire modified 12225074 Eng Cal segment in the 12202088 OS binary, the IAC did the same thing, and caused the engine to hunt at 400rpm, I thought It was a failure, turned the ignition off, restarted it and it's been perfect ever since.

Here's the download of the 2 XDFs.
12202088_Series_2 Complete.zip
(93.4 KiB) Downloaded 630 times
12225074_Complete.zip
(93.68 KiB) Downloaded 573 times
I've included the checksum plugin used when I wrote them.

I've tested the VY one out by recreating the VY 427 tune found on the net as an efilive .tun file into bin format.
I've also organised the internals of the XDFs to have a layout that wasn't so hard to use regarding finding the entry you need.

Please note, not all 800+ entries haven't been tested by me, if you find a problem, let me know and I'll fix it and re-post the fix.
I did however validate the entries using efilive

I didn't bother to encrypt the XDFs either.

Also I have the 285kw tune running in the 12202088 series 2 bin if anyone is interested.

Thanks Ken. I don't play around with those ECU's but it's time I did so I'll hunt around for some bin files just to have a play.

Quick question, is there a difference between the US 12202088 and the 12202088 Series 2?

Thank you!

I don't, is there a tune available with the option grafted in, I'll add it to the above XDF if needed.

Both the US and aussie 12202088 OS's come in early and late variants, I've only seen the US one's as being listed as from 2001 and later.
Here the car's have a Series II badge added to the car for the later one.
The early and late have an engine cal segment layout that differs from a particular address within the segment of the binary,
there's possibly other differences, though i've not had to delve that far into it to find out.

Edited spelling mistake:

I thought the Aussie ones were the same 12202088 for 01/02 and then moved to 12225074 for 03/04 including series 2? Could be wrong, but so far I haven't noticed different versions of the same OS. Back when I used to play with my mates SS Commodores if they were 01/02 with 12202088 the first thing I'd do would be to swap to an 04 bin with OSID 12225074 as the factory calibrations were a lot better and also solved a flat spot at the top of one of the gears.
