Help with shopping list

Post by hatchssv8 »

Here is my initial shopping list. Just looking for advice on all items. where to buy, to buy or not to buy.
Not going the whole hog but dont want to be 'borrowing' things.

My situation is

Restoring an older car, with updated (sort of) powertrain and electrical system.
Will use an 808, manual trans. Run a 215 bin (VS) to get going. will retune to suit any engine mods, and have 2 bins to switch between. Add BCM for central locking, cruise & immobiliser to begin with

ECM: 808. BCM VR or VS
1. I ultimately want to comm with the ECM as per a Tech2
2. Bin size will be 2 x 32k

Currently have the stock 256k eprom soldered in the memcal, will remove and replace with a 27SF512 (Chose Flash to negate the UV eraser requirement). Where can I get these suckers without losing an arm. Moates has them for $5, but $29 postage. Not much luck with Alltronics or Jaycar.

Also a chip reader/programmer. Enough to get me out of trouble. need to read/write the flash and stock eprom

Modification to the 808 (Ihave been given advice previously and have over digested it, hope my set up info in this post helps with this)
1. Need to convert 808 to a VR ECM, (more than one way to do this?

Thanks again for your patience. and like usual, correct me where I have stuffed up!

The willems are popular, I recently got a True USB and am happy with it - not as easy or fast to use as my old DOS one when stacking bins but it works well other than that.

One of these will do that for you .. https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=398 . Not aware of anything else that will convert it.

OK. If I mod with the SXR will I have to add the comms circuit (# ?? but Red/black in colour) to log and comm with the ECM. Hoping you say yes to this question. If it is a yes, PM is only around the corner

Yep if you want to communicate with the ECU using a PC will also need some sort of ALDL interface. Any interface that supports one wire ALDL will work.
