e38-t43-bcm linking question

Post by ineptmath »

sorry if this stuff is convered ive been reading for a week trying to get definitive's.
i had to rewrite an ecu after mine died. new ecu has the old vin in it through SPS tech connect. i wrote a new bcm with SPS it wont let me write a TCM
VATS on the ecu is disabled through hptuners.

Image

car was driving, died and lost comm's to ECU.

my worry is that the TCM is going to be seeing the different serial number on the ECU and not play.
at present i have a no crank/start issue. and im not 100% that its not these modules being .....
i can how ever jump the relay and start and run the car. mechanically the gear box is shifting D = drive R =-reverse N = Nutral ect. i dont get park lights i dont get reverse lights
whilst in VCM scanner the TCM does not tell me what gear i am in or give me much information i can write / read the TCM controller through HPtuners.

fwiw this is a nissan patrol l98 swap using TCM/BCM/ECU from 2010 auto ute. im just at a bit of a loss as to how i proceed in fixing / finding my problem
am i being stopped by these modules not being linked and talking to each other correctly. ? what software do i look into to figure this out? no issues reading and learning.

thank you for your time and ideas.

I am guessing you are referring to a 2010 Holden VE Ute.

So there are three VERY important things here:
1) The ECM needs to be the correct service number to match a 2010 variant (If that is what you original bought from). Buying any old ECU from any year will result in problems, or brick the engine computer.

2) If you have not replaced the BCM or TCM, then you should not be attempting to program either of those. If only the engine computer was replaced, then you should only be programming the replacement engine computer.

3) To replace an engine computer, you MUST use the correct service number ECU, then flash the correct OS and calibrations, and finally perform a security link to the vehicle.
If your vehicle does not have the factory immobilizer module from the Holden, then you do not need to worry about performing a security link, and only need to turn VATs off using suitable tuning software.

I get multiple calls about conversion vehicles every single week. The biggest issue I hear of is people trying to force wrong parts to work in a vehicle, and end up cross flashing other parts (That did not need any programming) which results in either bricking modules, or creating further issues.

What exactly have you swapped and programmed so far? And what are all the part/service numbers on all the parts you have fitted?

edit: from left to right: both physical ECU have serv# 12633238
Original: e38 12635862 AAKC barcode 86aakck201032gf7 serv# 12633238 0103
Replacement: e38 12635862 AAKC barcode 86aakck19254lwl0 serv# 12633238 9254
left is whats in the car now, after ecu replace&reprogram via sps techlineconnect

edit2: just drove it out the front of my house and backed it in and reversed it into a better workable space.
odbxplorer wasnt happy about pids id selected ill visit that later. just want to make sure wiring is fine

update:: the calais BCM unchanged, also exhibits the same effects as the bcm that came with car. eg no transmission lights. car starts off jumper no park lights ect.
continuing with wiring.

it did let me pull code list:p0122-3,p0223,p0315,p0700,u0121(dont think this one is relevant)

thanks tazzi. car was working then ecu died or started exhibiting problems. i have swapped ECU, from a same OSid 2010 auto calais. i have sps replace&reprogrammed that ecu to the original vin. i also replace and reprogrammed the BCM. after doing so the car is behaving the same way only starts off jumping the starter motor. runs and seems to not have the issues the bad ecu had. problem is i cant see PDRNL in the transmission. i am going to revisit that later using ur ODBXpro GT cable and software to see how much it can see. first today i am going through all the wiring.

it is a patrol base.
i have thought ive F'd something up. and figure i need to buy your ODBsync program and cable and tokens to fix that IF that is the issue. but i need to go through all the wiring first as i have this NO crank via key situation happening have evidence of the loom which connects to crank sensor/starter getting hot enough to burn through the protective sheathing.
thanks for your input i will report back after i go through all this will take some time im not a wiring guy. please continue to leave me any ideas or suggestions as i know you are much more knowledgeable on this then i.

fwiw im a dude working on his own car, i have talked to u via phone before when i was first learning about talking to computers and got a few cables from you and am also in perth.

the tcm doesnt need to be programmed, ecu wont give 2 shits if the vin is mismatched or blank.

Only thing that needs to be done is security link on ecu to setup, or vats & associated errors turned off.

one 12v key is your park/neutral safety switch wire and also if you no display on dash gear indicator check or replace and alignment of the NSBU SWITCH LOOK UP INSTALL ALIGHMENT FOLLOW THAT ALONG EITH CABLE ADJUSTMENT YOU SHOULD GET SOMETHINGIF NOT ALL
I HAD ALL THE SAME ISSUES WITH MY ALLISON TRANS AN CONTROLLERS

THE WIRE U SAID HAD NO POWER WITH KEY ON IS MORE LIKE YOU P/N SIGNAL SHOULD LIGHT IF IN NEUTRAL, THERE ALSO PARK 12V ACCESSORY FEED AND 12 FEED CONSTANT TO HITCH PLUG IF TOW PACKAGE CAME FACTORY YOU HAVE 7 OT 12 PIN NSBU SWITCH WHERE THE TCM AND BCM ALL TY IN TO TELL TRANS WHAT TO DO ALONG WITH THE MECHANIAL LEVER U PULL IF NOT A NEW ELECTRONIC GEAR SEL.

DM IF YOU WOUOLD LIKE THE ALLSION AND OTHER SCHEMATIC I HAVE YOU SEE MOST HAVE AKLOT IN COMMON AND OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR IS FACTOR IN TCM COMMANDING NEUTRAL ALL SHIFTS OR LIMP MOD I BEEN THREW IT WITH THE DURAMAX ALLOISON TCM N MCHANICAL ISSUE SO LET ME NO IF I CAN HELP
