Hey guys
What is the strength of the v6 like in standard form? stock valve springs pistons and rods etc?
I want to put a 3584 on a vt or my vx and was wondering how strong they are? will be running 98 fuel.
What power levels have people got reliably and boost pressures used?

On pump 98, I would stick to 500hp
15psi should be around 430hp

I'd be more worried about the pistons. You need to open up the ring gap if you want them to survive.
Tired valve springs will just valve float sooner. Boost effectively reduces the valve spring pressures.

Hey mate, what ignition timing did you run on 15psi? how low did you drop the timing at peak torque ?

what about the 4lslippery E ?
how much power would the sludge box handle ? where should i pull it up to get some use out it ?

Built they can take a bit. When I got my non E built, the shop reckon it was good for around max 800hp. I had it built for the intention of boost but I abandoned that idea and stuck with NA and now swapping out to a T5 as usual for me.
Stock, I'd say absolute stuff all, they barely can handle stock power without breaking or burning out the clutches for long. Personal experience, had about 7 die over my time playing with these cars, usually straight away or mere weeks/months in the best case after I get the cars and start driving the way I do. That's all stock mostly too, so in stock form they are pretty weak, so def consider upgrading yours. Autos are pretty cheap to get built relatively speaking, a few k $ would do it.

How come a stock 4L60e dies behind a V6 and yet they live behind LS motors?
There is currently a class action lawsuit against Holden/GM about failing late model transmissions in Commodores, slipping/failing converters. OEM they are tuned to constantly slip the TCC! Anyway I was doing some reading about it and then saw something that says GM/Holden were doing the same with the 4L60e. So in stock form a lot of it has to do with the factory tuning of these transmissions.
The problem now is we are dealing with old transmissions and you just don't know what kind of condition it is in.
My mate is currently putting a new built 355 in his VR SS, when they pulled out the old 355/tranny it was shocking to see the state of the inside of the box and yet it was only slipping in 3rd at full power on the drag strip but was perfectly happy towing a trailer with Subaru on it for 400km+.
