Search "ds1245y-70ind" and trust only the major Australian suppliers of that exact variation of the chip. That is, mouser, digikey, element14 or rscomponents. There are lots of fakes in the market, and you can trust these 4 distribution chains. The best one changes, what they charge for postage can be a big factor which to choose. The fakes either dont work, have cheap batteries that dont last or cant survive the Australian summer, or work too slow and are unstable (which is the worst because you may think its working but you introduce problems that are hard to be sure the chip is the problem).

Thank you have come across digikey and mouser will look at the others. The chip is currently at a local computer shop there tech said he should be able to repair it but I’ve told them not to touch it until they figure out a price as obviously not worth repairing an old unit if it’s the same cost as a new one. I found on here that someone suggested running socket and remove that rather than the actual chip as they’re stronger and protect the chip. Thanks

There is a socket on the nvram board. You are already using it in a socket and removing / repluging it in to that. Ideall the nvram chip would have stronger legs but that is how they are made, and the expectation is that it does not normally need to be removed. Only once in 10 years when its battery goes flat. You should almost never need to pull it out. So long as your connections are good and you always used the right adx/xdf from the zip (and start with the matching bin), you should not need to remove the chip. It needs to be a good tight fit so that it doesn't move in a high vibration automotive environment and cause signal problems and crash the computer when its running the engine.

Yeah I’m aware of that someone suggested running a second one and remove that instead of the actual NVRAM. Hopefully once I get it back I’ve got everything right I had an issue with a comms board wire coming off didn’t realise and re wrote the Nvram trying to solve the no connect issue. Cheers

If I new the specifics, I'd replace it with a Pi Pico.
Like this guy did. Then you'd have high speed USB flashing... by default. Probably don't even need the PIO stuff for it to work.

If you did that you'd need to make sure it could drive the 5v I/O in the ECM, and you wouldn't get any realtime function unless you implemented that also on the ECM side. USB would be a step backwards for realtime tuneing. You need the USB to the ECM anyway so that you can log it, using that to write in realtime is an end to end solution with a single USB port. Short of it, is anything is possible but it comes down to time cost, monetary cost, the implementers skills versus benefit. Most modern solutions do not support a 5v parallel bus interface, that's usually the hardest part.

An overall concept should be simple enough too. Address lines = a number, number indexes a table of bytes. The newer ones have enough room for multiple flash files that could be toggled on boot.
Now whether it's worth the hassle and what it might take for live tuning the established way, I don't know; I never even got serial to not slow my code to a comparative crawl. No going to try that again until I test what I have on an engine. it's nuts that things are so shit that I haven't been able to attempt that yet. Always something.
