This is some what grasping at straws, have you checked that the outer ring on the Harmonic Balancer hasn't spun.
When at TDC the Key way on the Harmonic Balancer should be vertical/12 o'clock.

When you machine the slots longer have it so the White lines in the picture align and the engine at TDC, this will give 10deg advance when in diag mode.
