Oh dear...
So a tech2 and other scantools, when resetting the PIM set the pin hexcode to 00 00 00 00.

Now a small problem arises, I tried to link a reset ECM to a reset PIM... half expecting it to ask for a pin like scantools to set the new pin and link.
Says it was successful..... but what pin did it set.....

I'm thought resetting a hex to numerical 00 would be $30 ?

Therefore 30 30 30 30
Would be the pin code 0000

II feel we have come across this before. And now you've written a non numerical pin to the ecu, which won't unlock as it will only try each sequential hex for the number ie
30 30 30 31, 30 30 30 32 and so fourth?

Yeah it was in another thread, and iirc there was no fix for that ecu.....
So just a heads up, don't do what I just did......... can't reset with tech2 and just did 1 pass from 0000-9999 with v1.3.

Partly my fault, I left a pin code written on this pim and also reset.... saw the pin and thought it was one I hadn't gotten to.

There's actually a issue with some PIMs straight from GM to that had a decimal In place of a 0 when read with from the eprom. It to also copys the hex value for that decimal and links the ecu. Which is fine until that ecu ever needs to be reset or another ecu replaced and linked to that PIM.
Only way around is to keep pim and ecu linked and only replace the "bcm" to that PIM and ECU pair

So does that mean that it did link and will run in the car?

If they have linked can't you read the eeprom on the PIM to find out what it is? Can that linked set be linked to the BCM?
It's ultra rare I would need to worry about changing a PIM

That will be a tomorrow mission, see if it works in car.

I've come across it quite a few times that someone had previously changed PIM & ECM, so I generally set the replacements to the correct security code for the car if i have it, hence having reset pims ready to go.

Yeah if it links, It still links, as all its doing is storing the pin in hex from the PIM to the ECU. It doesn't care what that PIN is, so long as it matches.
The problem exists when you try to delink that ecu again, as the programs only allow you to enter in numbers for the pin code. so you only get numbers 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 which in tern is the hex 30,31,32,33,34,35,36,37,38,39.
