$5D spark map

Post by 300kwv6 »

Hi All,

Just looking through some older $5D bin files and notice in the F1 SAMAIN: Main Spark Advance vs MAP and RPM it only goes upto 4800 rpm. What happens when the revs are above this point?

Here's an example:

If its like the newer models it will just flatline at that spark setting till it reaches rpm max setting in the calibration!

Thanks for the info. So if using 12p we fill in timing across the board and don't use extension slope?

yeah thats correct, if you are transferring a tune from 5D say into 12P use the extension slop number as a guide ... eg. 2 degrees per 1000rpm, should be pretty straight forward to work out the increase on the 12P table and apply the same from 20-100kpa.

Thanks. I guess this must've been a limitation of the factory based tunes.

well it also means 1 number can be used to create values for alot of cells and hense save space, i dare say its more a matter of smaller bin file limitations.

Thats true, those original factory bins are only 16kb. We have more and higher resolution tables in 12p, but thats got 32kb of space available. I guess at the factory they also were building daily drivers and up there a 1 number slope was probably close enough for rpm which the engine wouldnt spend much time in on the trip down to the shops or cruising on the open road - especially with an auto behind it. That one was probably high up on the 'compromises we can take' list.
