anyone ever bought any knock ears?
anyone ever bought any knock ears?
in the absence of access to a real dyno and getting a bit tired of guessing spark maps with the old butt dyno which isny very accurate anyway, been thinking of getting some knock ears to aid in my road tuning. has anybody ever bought any and can recommend a particular set to buy?
Re: anyone ever bought any knock ears?
there's quite a few around, though there all to expensive for my liking, i just bought a headphone amp and a knock sensor and then bolted it where i wanted on the block, though i find the new knock active loops in enhanced mod better for tuning, it matches MBT on dyno.
Re: anyone ever bought any knock ears?
im trying to tune an ecotec at the moment... 4.2L, balanced, 8:1 ish compression, ported heads, ported reverse manifold, cam 226@ 0.50 and 114lsa. running on 12P n/a while its being run in, then it gets its 15psi turbo up its bum. getting a bit wary of it at the moment trying to figure out how much timing it wants. so far this is my guesswork spark map. it seems to like it, no sign of knock but im trying to figure out if it wants more... without a dyno, I just want to be careful and use knock ears.
Re: anyone ever bought any knock ears?
can't help much with map conversion, 15psi is safe with 8deg during WOT when i do stock s/c assuming it has some sort of cooling then tune up from there. Though yours is stroked.

Jayme i reckon you could go more timing lower in the revs i guess it depends on the converter too, if its not going to be below 2000rpm then don't worry

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

T5
we will see if it blows at 15psi. it is a doooog below 3500 rpm at the moment it feels like it could use more timing. cruising at 100k's 2000 rpm 90 kpa

Jayme,at work the engineers were using the knock sensors off an alloytec or LS2 bolted to the block near the sump and wired up to a 3mm earphone jack and straight into the radio jack.
Worked very well (if you have a stereo/aux input)
I sent one up to holden202t a couple of years ago, cant remember if i have any more lying around but can check.
