low rpm too.

explains why so many of the vs to vt engines just randomly spin bearings. by my local mechinc's observation. nearly all VS engine just drop dead at the 250 -300k mark, all with spun bearings.

So to me its clear the casting issue was more common during the early days then steadily improved towards the end. like I never hear VX and VY engine fail this way. VT sometimes, VS is like a ticking time bomb lol

last year I won this very nice VS on ebay, went to pick it up, checked over the car. tested the engine out, seemed alright, gave it a moderate rev and it failed right there and then. I walked away from that deal  280k it had.

well who knows what specs there rewelded to as well, who is checking? I think mace's come from zzp and who makes them for zzp?

Yeh no doubt cam is better overall, you get the extra benefit of duration.

I dont mind rockers but for the price it's not worth it, in my case i either got the parts for free or was owed money so worked out next to nothing, but alteast did the lot, new rods, rockers, bolts, springs, valve seals, collets and retainers.

Mines a Series 1 VS April 95 :wtf: :wtf: First off the line lol

no the rocker mace does. my wrecker I use supplies him with the rockers and throttle bodies. :D

mace recommends John Hamilton for engine work as mace does not do engine work at all, just upgrade stuff. He is the guy who only does ecotecs and does the oil mods, pic curtsey of him. No one else does this, asked some of the big builder about this before and all don't believe they have oil issues and wont do the work required to correct it.

When I am ready my engine is going to John, he knows his stuff on these engines. I could probably do it myself but with some one like him, no doubt it would be done shit loads better than I could. After all I am not an engine builder

you'd probably find as well there's a lot of motors out there like the one I got that was filled with sludge build up from lack of oil changes, this would only exacerbate the oil feed issues!

That oil gallery modification is used on the Buick V8 engine as well, which is what the series 1 & 2, Ecotech engines are based on.
Its surprising how many engines look the same as this when you pull the rocker covers off, they all tell you that they service the car often.

yeh i saw a video once where a car came in for a service to a workshop, mechanic took the drain plug out and nothing came out. engine was running on sludge somehow.

It's inevitable but touchwood i get a bit more out of mine yet, when it does need work ill hopefully put new parts in it rather than replace it as it's been a good engine.

Here's mine when i was installing the rockers.

the failed engine I posted few up ^ had sludgicles hanging from the intake manifold to the valley lol. the sludge is what caused it to fail as it block the pickup.
