Morning all,
Mechanicaly minded I am, but electricity is white-mans magic to me. So might I pose some questions regarding why I am having trouble getting the information that is avaliable from the OBDII plug. I recently purchased a Bluetooth OBDII plug to use with an app on the iphone, well that didn't work. I have also sent away for the wireless version which works on the Anderiod based phone, but that is still days away.

In the meantime the single din player arrived from Hong Kong, and has been fitted in dash, but teething problems are preventing me from getting the readings I want to see. Why go to all this trouble I hear you thinking, well because the original speedo in the FJ is not accurate enough for driving these days when they will fine you for the slightest over-speeding. To this end a GPS based app on the iphone does the job, then I read about the above unit and purchased it. I wanted something I could use not only to check my speed, but use as a repeater of the readings related to the engine and would assist me in tuning. In addition provide a real time digital display on screen while travelling. A lot cheaper that purchasing six or seven separate gauges.
My problem is that the unit is timing out before obtaining the readings from the VT 3.8L AUT PCM, the only reading that does come up is the battery voltage, all the remaining codes don't show up. The VT PCM ( Service No 16233396) has had the key security removed and had all the codes checked using a normal reader, so I believe it produces the codes at the plug.
Might you have a suggestion or two? PHOTO Single din with on board OBDII reader using Windows CE.
