VR and VS Memcal

Post by bck2basic »

Hey, just wondering is there any difference in a vr and vs memcal, and if I bought a VS Clubsport auto memcal BWCS9976 with a 1F4160 knock board, and paid someone to put a VR Clubsport BFPM tune on it, will it work in my vr hsv ecu or will I need a vs ecu? And will I still be able to use the aldl cable with the computer? Thanks

I think it will work but you'll probably have to disable VATS

knock boards should be both v8 ones and should work the same. The eeproms size is smaller on VR to VS so bin will need to be stacked.

the memcals are 100% exactly the same from VR to VS. both VR and VS manuals have 32k eprom and both autos have 64k eprom. as long as you load up a VR tune onto it, and plug it into your VR computer in a VR car, then you will be fine and the fact that it came from a VS will be irrelevant

Ok but is that hard The1? Also what would I expect to pay for a genuine vs clubsport auto memcal?

just trying to make it clear for others who are reading the thread in the future. to me, your post conveyed the idea that all VR memcals are smaller than all VS memcals, which is incorrect.

to the OP: you will have zero problems. it will behave like a factory memcal. whoever you pay to burn the new tune on it will be able to figure out they need to stack it, in order to load it onto the larger eprom of an auto. its very simple and no problem

Ok, sorry, thanks.

How much would I expect to pay for a vs clubby memcal though?

ive never bought one, but given they are rare, I would expect it to run into the hundreds. someone else might be able to give a closer estimate if they have bought one before.

Looking on eBay you're looking at around the $200-250 mark.
Make sure it is a genuine one as there are some dodgy sellers selling reflashed chips with V6 knockboards that will give nothing but trouble.

Although this guy is known to be dodgy, this one looks legit:
