I put 2,202 posts at http://www.diyaudio.com/index.php and 1,925 at http://oldholden.com/ and 548 at http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/vn- ... 1988-1993/ You hang around for a while, then taper off, then go back just occasionally.

At car forums I always like to join in the arguments where people say that a long stroke engine gives more torque than a short stroke engine of the same swept volume because they have greater leverage courtesy of the longer crank throws. Assuming volumetric efficiency is the same in both cases. They never seem to get the idea that the greater leverage is countered by the same psi on the piston working on proportionally less si.

in the vw aircooled world, in reality T1 vs T4 engine. T4 being the later superior engine, actually has much smaller stroke, much larger bores are torque monsters in comparison, but its got little to do with the stroke vs bore. They just have way better heads, and I guess some gains with better rod ratio too, not so much side thrust.

Yep, small bore engine means you can ony fit dinky little valves before they overlap the bores. But, for equal volumetric efficiency, and for that matter equal compression ratio and resistance to knocking, things should be the same in both cases. Of course, you can go too far in that a really wide bore enables big valves but makes for a longer flame path so is more inclined to knock. :comp:
