Theres is some discussion of needing an extra wire to erase the chips, see here.

It sounds like your erased ok, but there must be something about your programmer. Try and ID what PCB version of willem yours is, then look for information about flashing that chip on that version. Hopefully if there is a trick to it you can find it. Can you write 512kbit EPROMS ok?
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396

Sorry if i am answering questions you already know but
Have you tried hardware test
I found with my willem i use the eprom 35 software and don't have dramas
Use pcb 35a device select
Make sure the jumper is selected according to your power source
Check the printer port in device manager and select the same one in the programmer software
And make sure the eproms are in the programmer the right way see the pic attached

I mustn't have been holding my tongue the right way,it works now.I made sure that the bin was loaded before placing the chip in the zif socket, then programed the chip.

might have been dodgy contact between the zif socket and the eprom pins.

I tested the chip yesterday. I started the motor with the current chip, & the engine hunts(revs jump from idle to 1500rpm)then fitted the new chip & does the same sort of thing, but it did run. I picked the revs up to 3000 & the AFR averages 1.1-1.3 lambda using the LM-1 with no engine load, which is similar to the original. Any ideas as to why it may be hunting, its always done once it warms up, idles ok when cold.

hunting is sometimes caused by it being very sensetive to timing and having a spark map where timing has large gaps between map cells in the <1000rpm area, try making all the idle timing cells the same or similar and the <1000rpm cells in the main map the same or similar.
also if you post up a log, you can usually see in the log what is causing the hunting.

its too lean....

at idle you want to be seeing around 5:1 AFR or .78 lambda....

best way to do it is to log with the $12P Methanol adx and connect the LM-1 analog output into the 808 so then it will be in the log, you can then use that to see what the actual AFR is compared to the commanded.

If its lean everywhere then you probably want to make the injector constant richer (make the number bigger) change it in .005 increments is probably a good way to do it.

also as Jayme says if the idle spark and main spark are different that wont be helping.

if you want to post your current bin file and any log you have i'd be happy to have a look at it for ya.

remember with methanol you pretty much can't get it too rich so it wont hurt having it on the rich side. My idle AFR table is 5.10-5.20's but the car usually sits in the 4.9's and its happy like that might just be using a bit more fuel.

also this is a spreadsheet i have which might help you with comparisons....

I'll need to do some home work on how to log with the 808. At this stage the only log that I have is the LM-1 log. The logs only have afr as I didn't have much time to fit the rest of my gear. The one marked M2 is the modded 202 methanol chip.

the hunting allways happens with the throttlebody before the blower map goes up and down and allso the iac cant react fast enough to keep it steady with a bit of work you will get it quite smooth but it does take a lot of effort to get it perfect many have not succeded.best bet is set all the idle rpm area in the ve table to the same VE% and timing and the idle spark advance so even if the map varies a lot it still gets the same fueling and timing should help it a bit if not then your gonna have to change the idle sag rpm values so it opens the iac with less variation in idle rpm to make it stay steadier

yeah she definately looks lean ....

if you can get a map sensor input into lm1 that should be all you need to tune with the wideband

also can you upload a copy of your current bin, i'd liike to have a gander at what numbers you have in it....
