delco conversion on toyota 4efe efi engine

Post by gorbosvs »

Hi all, just wondering how would go about converting my ep91 toyota starlet 4efe efi engine to run on a delco ecu, the 4efe engine uses ev1 injectors, unsure on impedance, or duty cycle, the distributor is electronic type,

oh I didn't realise when you messaged me that it was already EFI, that's going to make things easier, so really you just want to remove the current ECM and install a delco so you can tune more easily I am guessing ?

Thats ok, i didnt come across clear enough my bad, yeah thats basically what I would like to do, the 4efe engine distributor is a denso type, i can get access to a n13 pulsar ecu, wiring and sensors

ok so your going to need to find out what sort of trigger is inside the dissy .... maybe a photo under the cap might help ?

you'll also want to find out what sort of throttle position sensor is on it, if its 0-5v then it might be ok to use with the delco ..... otherwise you might need to look at adapting a pulsar (or similar) throttle body, this will give you IAC and TPS in the one unit.

you'll also need to see if the coolant sensor is compatible, or use the pulsar one.

but yeah certainly you'll need to get a wiring loom and sensors off a donor car, also if your distributor is a reluctor type you can probably adapt the pulsar ignition module to drive it..... if its hall effect sensor you might need to use V8 ignition module.

then it will be a matter of starting to adapt the loom and sensors to the motor and see how it goes.

Most the jap stuff is optical... but lets find out what type this one is first.

Im using a mobile phone and it wont let me upload pics of the distributor, i took the cover of the distrubutor and it looks like the coil is inbuilt into the distributor, it also has a igniter assembly unit

Typical Toyota X+1 setup. In this case the 4 tooth reluctor trigger is ideal for a camira/pulsar style ignition module.

So i would need wiring diagrams of toyota distrubutor and camira/pulsar module, and wire them together with camira/pulsar plugs for camira/pulsar harness to plug on

have a read here .... its for converting a Holden 202 to EFI but the distributor stuff will have relevance to you.

http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4

yes you will more than likely need a wiring diagram for at least the distributor unless it happens to have the positive and negative wires labelled etc .... theres only two from the reluctor that you need, the rest are part of the EFI loom in a camira/pulsar.

you'll also want a wiring diagram that shows where this is to be wired into the cars body wiring.
