Got the car out on the rd today to take it for rego and it was odd the idle is now really high again after a bit of driving suspect something odd going on with the iac again but otherwise went ok.
Can you believe they want an engineers report for the intake manifold apparently the E.p.a is throwing it's weight around and defecting cars with any sort of mod.
I remember a while back a guy telling me import cars had no chance of meeting emission standards tests unless he fitted brand new cat converters.
So what hope do i have.
Wonder if they will come to their senses like they did with the stupid motorbike muffler rules they bought in where it had to have a matching certified compliance to the bike. that soon got thrown out the window.

thats fair enough though because the intake being changed can change how loud the car is coming towards you and hense EPA ....

thats why my engineer told me when i got my v6 engineering sorted out that he wants to see complete stock intake system (ie. air box etc) because its just a straight tick if you do that ... but if you change it i think the EPA tests are like $5000 or something ....

my suggestion is if you have the standard shit put it on, get it regoed then if you want to change it then do it ....

mind you if mr plod pulls you over you might have some explaining to do ... although in my experience most of them don't even know what a commodore v6 looks like :wtf:

Yeah i did hear a while back epa is going to be mobile testing car emissions something to do with a greener world.
Yeah i changed it back for rego already . should be on the rd tommorow
It's funny though i have been driving 15 years and not once has a cop ever asked me to open the bonnet.

On the rd again :driving:
I have the mixtures set fairly rich and their was no pinging up the big hills under load on the newcastle freeway.
Has anyone got a timing map to suit the 284 crane cam i can cross reference with.
I finally got to the bottom of the iac issue i extended the wires to the iac and may have mixed them up as they seem to be the same colour anyway seems to be sorted now finally i can adjust the throttle position and iac adjusts itself correctly or if i block the air to the iac it adjusts to the desired rpm.
Thanks for the help everyone

Few questions
I picked up some pacemakers where would be the best place to put the bung for the wideband sensor
And has anyone tried these wideband kits http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... &viewitem=

well provided the controller is good quality it should be ok, says it uses a bosch sensor which is most probably the same type that most others use .... 0-5v analog output is good aslong as its programable, provided its as good as they say it is then it should be a reasonable device.

as far as location goes its a matter of what works for you .... in my case on the v6 i have it just after the Y piece so its getting readings from both exhaust banks, with my straight 6 i just put it as close to the engine as i could after all the pipes had joined into one.

i guess on a batch fire injection engine having it in one bank manifold isn't that big an issue but if you can have it where they all join together that would be my choice.

also think about the angle your going to put it so you can easily get at it under the car etc and also so its up under the car enough that its not going to get ripped off if a stray stick or rock hits it etc.

i guess the only other consideration is wiring, in my car i was able to run the wiring up the firewall and into the cabin, on my mates VS V8 we had to punch out the rubber bung in the floor and put the wire up through that as his car didn't have a suitable path to safely route the wires out of heats way.
