They still need the wire soldered for NVRAM write enable, but from memory it's the same as an '808 in that regard.
Wiring up an ALDL socket is fine, as long as you have an ALDL cable.
But if you don't have a cable but you do already have a USB comms board, installing the comms board makes good sense.
The '305s aren't so rare that they should be preserved, and they generally don't fetch that much money unless you find someone in desperate need for one so it's not like you're chopping up the Mona Lisa...

For the prices they ask for some of them it would be cheaper to chop up the Mona Lisa and give them the popes right arm with it

you can install an sxr board in to any 808 to provide the same functionality and I suspect most people paying stupid money for the '305/'308 ecus want them for a manual conversion but dont realise they could run a regular '808 with a vats disabled manual memcal. But then again without the gear to make the memcal...

Thats the problem. once a few sell for those prices, everyone reckons they are worth that much.

just look at ebay for any general older holden parts. Everything it like drug money for bits only worth a few bucks at most. And they wonder why they cant sell stuff having it listed for 4 years in a row lol

I don't know what an aldl adapter is?

Where do these plug from to?
Ecu pin a9 to diagnostic plug pin 6
Ecu pin a8 to diagnostic plug pin 9

Damit look like this original HSV SV5000 may not be all that original then?
What this means is to add on one of these connectors :
housing (1) = http://www.x-on.com.au/DetailsPage.aspx ... gWB3MEIA==
contacts (2+) = http://www.x-on.com.au/DetailsPage.aspx ... ey7LDVRw==
retainers (2) = http://www.x-on.com.au/DetailsPage.aspx ... j4h1CpOg==

(PS. nextgenwiring.com are also a good source for automotive connectors.)

You'll also need to wire ground to pin 5, optionally 12V to pin 16.

Joe.

when I went to the dyno years ago the operator was telling me what other cars made to compare to my results, he reckons VR V8 stock makes about 180hp at the wheels, so its certainly not below average!

Think the SV5000 had a small camshaft. At least that's what the crane cstalogue says.

Yeah the VN SV5000 and VP 5000i (Senator, Clubsport, GTS) models had the 200kW "red" engine which had a bigger cam among other things so it should be well up on a standard V8

They had a bigger cam than standard and more comp, flat top pistons instead of dished, they go fairly good compared to a standard 5.0
