I think they are negative timing values.

I never expected santa's sleigh to be a VL commodore....but I always really hoped!Mmmmm Velour interior (has a Calais T as a hack)

Silly question: If I run the $12P code with VE learn (either wide and narrow) enabled without VL400's little upload box, do I need to make a little RAM expansion board? I got myself some larger 27c256's to burn the program onto, thats not a issue:

I always believed that the VE learn was always turned off since the 808' simply didn't have enough Ram on it --> The VE learn on the old code bases wrote to a address that didn't physically exist, so that's what the connector on the end of the board is? Or have I totally got it wrong?

Or am I getting spun out for no reason what so ever, and will it work fine as is?

VE learn writes to the main VE table in the normal bin. For this to work it requires the whole ROM has been replaced with an NVRAM instead, with the write line from the CPU connected. VL400 sells the boards in kit form or pre assembled, or you can buy an off the shelf dallas DS1230Y or 1245Y and fit yourself if so inclined. If doing this beware the cheap forgeries that some less reputable retailers are selling. If its too cheap to be true its probably going to cause you grief.

Oh O.K, since I'm doing 3 identical engines atm what I might do is get a pre-made module from VL400 (for tuning)and then once I have a map going leave the VE learn control disabled and just run on a normal read only eeprom....or will this cause issues?

Next silly question: I still have to solder a knock filter (from a VN) onto my 4 cylinder memcals for knock control, once I've upgraded the EEPROM? (course I have to...but for some reason its playing on my mind)

*engine is a Alfa Romeo boxer with a 'lil blower on it.

thats what alot of people do, use the nvram board from VL400 to tune the car then once your happy with the tune, extract it and burn it onto an eprom and then you can use the nvram in another car.

as for the knock board, i know the knock board on a v6 and v8 is different, im not sure if thats the case with v6 and 4 cylinder though so that might be something someone else can confirm. did the camira have a knock sensor originally ?

as far as memcals go, you shouldn't need to remove the knock board to install an eeprom.

Sorry I know it was a silly question....I wasn't sure if there was anymore changes in that little box of his! :)

No it didn't, you can solder one in from a V6 ontop of the back up mode chips on the same locations. It worked quite well, with a 1500 Alfa Romeo Boxer....maybe the harmonics work out? We could provoke it and it registered.

Here is a pic of the "old" engine which ran a delco with a modded $5D code base. For various reasons it didn't work out too well. You can see a VN knock sensor on the centerline of the block.

Its strange, I don't have a imageshack account, but a pic of my (well sorta) motor ends up there.....
