I believe its actually tricker than that. its not just wet that it needs. it need to also conduct electricity between your finger and the end of your object which is touching the screen.

try it.... lick something and touch the screen... nothing.... drool enough to conduct electricity from your finger to the screen... screen works :P

or jsut use one end of a battery... that always seems to work.

I tried this before. water droplet on the end of a plastic pen works, the non drawing end so its all plastic.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Its both. Resistive is contact based, and generally doesnt work as well. You find it more in low end cheap junk tablets and the like where they are just keeping costs down. But you have to press the screen hard to get anything. Most are capacitive which detects the changes in capacitence which occurs when your finger - or something like water moves past. Its better because it can work with lighter or no touch. And phones like some recent samsung androids have support for high sensitivity which can be turned on so that you can still use the touch screen in cold weather when wearing gloves. I was in Queenstown NZ in the snow last November and I can confirm this actually works pretty well!
