Re: V8 RPM Signal
But can't deny how much better DIS is over old school dizzy regardless of engineering and maintenance. Also the mechanical resolution is 2x for crank trigger and not to mention the diameter of the trigger system increases the mechanical SNR.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.
Re: V8 RPM Signal
What are the options for getting rid of standard V8 ignition system and going to an LS style set up ? I know VL use to make the bits but I don't think he does now, is there an alternative ?

You need to either swap to an LS computer, or need VL400's ignition module. You could PM him if you were interested. Other than that module, there are no good v8 options that output the 4 wire delco signal.
Someone with sufficient electronics skill could no doubt make something. You'd need to take an input from the crank and keep track of cylinder 1 with an extra notch or the like and fire 4 coils in wasted spark mode to get around the fact you dont know if the engine is on an intake or an exhaust stroke - 1 of the pair is the right one every spark event. You would also need to generate a spark signal (with appropriate dwell) at 10 degrees while the bypass signal is not asserted for starting. Theres a little more you'd have to do but thats a fair summary.

Thanks for that, it's not high on priority list as all my parts are brand new (genuine) but it's something i'l look into down the track

Re: V8 RPM Signal
VL400 is still making the modules, Big G bought one not long ago for the V6

Re: V8 RPM Signal
yeah I bought two recently also!
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: V8 RPM Signal
Wonder if its worth me buying one for future use? LS coils have a lot more punch than the stock V6 ones correct?

Re: V8 RPM Signal
Been thinking this too actually. Are you talking the full custom module or the LS coil driver?

Re: V8 RPM Signal
The full custom one so it can do spark cut with the 808 and its other useful features

Re: V8 RPM Signal
Both are still available, and both do spark cut on the '808 (or any ECU its connected to).
The full custom one is designed to be a replacement for an existing module or for a trigger pattern that is not normally supported on a delco ECU/PCM - ie Toyota 24+1 or 36-1 missing tooth. It also can control dwell independently of the ECU if you want, along with overlapping at higher RPMs for more spark energy.
