As far as I am aware the only emissions regs a bike has to conform to in Australia are noise and even then they are aloud alot more noise than cars etc. When I had my car engineered nearly 15 years ago I had to keep it under 92 dB yet my neighbour had a Harley that drowned all the noise from my car when he was leaving his driveway. My car was tested numerous times because police thought it was to loud but it was always under the 92 dB.
By virtue of the fact you can't buy leaded fuel at a servo anymore bikes are deemed to comply with the 1986 ADR 37 yet they are not required to have a cat converter so there is no actual compliance because there is no actual conversion done.

Re: EPA vs Harley
My bad, noise in Victoria is also the only emission related compliance, I've seen stickers on Harley's that mention emission compliance, In fact Im sure my Yamaha dirt bike has one also, i'll check tonight.

Sounds like they didn't get their dealer installed tunes an EO exemption number for CARB. So when a HD dealer changed pipes, removed cats, or added a high flow air cleaner and then installed a Harley "Stage 1" or "Stage 2" download the tune wasn't certified.

I find it interesting that SA, which of all the places I have lived has the worst cars on the road, has that page telling people how bikes have been under ADRs since 1975. I'm sure if SA was really worried about safety they would start yearly rego checks which would cut the number of cars on the road in the South East by 50%.antus wrote:I cant see any emmision regs either but there are ADRs. https://www.sa.gov.au/topics/transport- ... quirements
Just as an aside I liked the the SE of SA, Adelaide was nice but the SE had spectacular scenery.
