Oh this shall be interesting...

Bought the ECU.. at minimum it will be another ecu to add to the list.
Actually... being FPV.. could be tuned.

Worst case scenario.. time to work out brute forcing them also

My pcm has had the pats disabled with hp tuners. A couple of years ago I fitted a BA 4.0L motor to my XH ute with the BA pcm running standalone.
Im not running any other modules on the can bus so I had to change a few DTC's to not log a fault from the missing modules etc, but apart from that my pcm is oem.
If this pcm ever shits itself I'll be in trouble so I would like to clone this ecu so I have a spare.

The spare pcm I have has identical numbers so I will do a read on both ecu's and then compare the bin files in hexeditor & see if I can see what has changed.

Hey rolls, thanks for your efforts so far. We all really appreciate it. Thanks for sharing!
I will keep you updated.

Also, for those that haven't seen this; its a good reference for PCM numbers.

For cloning this program has worked great, top work Rolls, there is a section S/N located at ox EFE0 it doesn't change with the write tho, this doesn't change with other one other generic software either. tho, so its not a 100% clone, but really close.
I believe this section is what 1 other generic software is using to marry there tunes to the ecu tho.

If you can get an ISO15765 sniff of the other tool I can see what they are doing. They might be doing another write over the top immediately afterwards.

AGAIN AWESOME work Rolls, I still haven't had a chance to test it out yet but will report back when I do.

But yeah you can change different types of tunes on the same type of controller it just depends on what hardware the controller has as to whether it will work, I even flashed a V8 file onto a I6 controller & the car ran & started but only on 6 cylinders so it obviously doesn't have the drivers for other 2 cylinders.

Yep that makes sense. Sounds as though the only time you will go into recovery mode is if you flash a completely different OS eg FG -> BF or maybe a gas only to a petrol etc. I don't see any real reason to do this anyway as buying another PCM from the correct model is only ~$50 or so from a wrecker that way you are guaranteed to have the same electronics on the board.

I have had recovery happen, from an accidental key cycle whilst writing. your right tho there is no real need to swap O/S.
