Just be careful doing the pre-heat, if any moisture hits the ceramic inside the sensor it may crack. Innovate warn against it and also say to power it up after starting - also so the starter motor does not cause any voltage spikes to kill it.

Re: Delco tuning for for dummys
Due to my recent alternator issue my tune went whacko in the ve not a total loss i did back it up a few weeks back.
Anyway i really want to start from scratch again anyway hopefully i'll remember most of it as i go and this time more will sink in.
Was wandering if anyone had a copy of the timing from the 284 crane cam memcal package or the tune they give you with the cam so i can use things from that as a base.

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: Delco tuning for for dummys
If the idle is at 850 would i copy the timing from the 850 rpm area into the idle spark timing.
And also my thermostat likes to keep the temp around 70 -80 degrees will enabling wideband ve learn at 70 degrees hurt anything.
Today i tried that spark map with my old ve amazing how much richer the mixtures were and how much power was lost.
Can anyone explain in more detail how to figure out the correct timing from what i can gather most tuners will advance until knock then back off 1-2 degrees
Does this apply through the whole range or is it just a wot guideline.
And for mixtures i have been reading conflicting arguments over tuning with wideband vs watching the power curve and leaning off until power drops off then take it back a little. I plan to put the car on a dyno sometime soon and would love to know wich works best .

Re: Delco tuning for for dummys
If you have access to a dyno then my suggestion for timing is to find the point of most torque, thats across the board, weather its WOT or part throttle ....
as for fueling .... i guess alot of this is personal preference .... but if your tuning WOT then i guess the point of most power is probably the best for performance but weather its a safe point is another thing .....
bit like the old nitro remote control cars, they are most powerful when they are just slightly lean this is great if you don't want them to last!
as far as spark for idle, that tune has nothing that resembles the main spark map .... but yeah i normally try and make the idle area of the main spark the same as the idle spark table .... theres no 1000rpm so i make 1200 and 800 the same as my motor idles about 900rpm

Re: Delco tuning for for dummys
Yeah after a bit of playing i ended up using the spark map i started with.
It had so much more power and a lot of drastic timing like as much as 10 degrees difference in some areas.
Was still good to try anyway will see what happens on the dyno when i eventually get there.

Re: Delco tuning for for dummys
I Have a few questions yet again
1. i notice since using ve learn when the air temp is cold it is lean on the wideband but seems to be ok once the air temp goes up how do i calulate and adjust this.
2.my 02 sensor is probably as dead as they come so what would be the best way to calculate the ve table using wideband logging is their a formula.
3. when i back off and engine brake the wideband goes off it's head lean is this normal or is their a way to fix it.
I also noticed the log has a 2600 3000 3400 table etc but the ve doesn't
I have uploaded a log and the tune that is way off any chance for some pointers in the right direction.

Take a look at the charge temp and inverse temp tables. Will need to get some logs with different temps and determine the changes needed.Dec_head wrote:I Have a few questions yet again![]()

(actual AFR/target AFR) * current VE = new VEDec_head wrote:2.my 02 sensor is probably as dead as they come so what would be the best way to calculate the ve table using wideband logging is their a formula.
Its normal, its called decel enleanment and decel fuel cut-off.Dec_head wrote:3. when i back off and engine brake the wideband goes off it's head lean is this normal or is their a way to fix it.

Thanks i'll give it a go and see if i can get my head around it.
heres a log where i made a few changes to the 100 map ve and thrashed it
