The TPS not being a pre Ecotec TPS won't be causing any problem. I have a VS V6 Ecotec wagon and it runs a V8 TPS (which is the same as the pre Ecotec TPS) and there are no problems caused by it.

So I don't get this thrown back at me

I'm going to quote your reply and then comment on it.
Dave001 wrote:As a test to help explain this better, I just connected the MULTIMETER to pins C13 and D2 of the ECU.
With the standard Buick TPS I see around 0.4v at Idle - 4.05v at WOT, of course this is with the TPS sitting in my hand, guessing the idle point. As it turns the opposite way to a Ecotec TPS, I can't test it on the throttle body.
With the Ecotec TPS I see 1.3v at idle - 3.95v at WOT.
Don't test things on your hand by guessing anything let alone Idle (and then admitting to your example being a guess). Put the thing on the correct TB for it and test it properly then come back with the real numbers.

I think comments asking about using a multimeter were wondering that as you can use a data log to view tps and cts voltages etc, you could have done that rather than actually probing the sensors pins, don't get angry about it, think of it from the person reading its point of view, we only know what you are telling us and if you are not very clear on what you have and haven't done it leaves a lot of grey areas which we can't answer sitting at the computer.

its not easy to provide all the info of your results, and its even harder to work it all out from the other side of Australia :)

theres obviously some issue and everyone here is only trying to help and make sure every possible situation/test has been covered!

Ecotec and Buick tips both wired exactly the same just they turn opposite directions.you should still be able to get 0.5v at closed throttle no worries at all.its spitting the dummy and then using the backup map vs rpm table for dead tps situations that's why the tps value dropped in the logs it's gone from reading actual tps value to the calculated value based on map vs rpm
If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem

That makes sense as to why the value in the log dropped.
Also could make sense as your using a different TPS, if what you said is right:
Buick TPS range 1.16k Ohms - 6.16k Ohms.
Ecotec TPS Range 1.57k Ohms - 8.25k Ohms

I'm guessing that's the resistance between the reference earth and signal? Or is it between reference 5v and signal? Not that it really matters.

Does anyone know if there is a pull up or pull down resistor on the signal inside the ECU that may be a different value between ecotech and Buick, which could be causing the voltage difference?
I imagine it would have to have one so it would see 5v or 0v when signal goes open circuit to know there's an error condition? BUT I also imagine it would be a very high value (megaohms) that shoudn't cause much difference in voltage considering the resistance of the sensor isn't huge?

Even if it's because your using the Ecotech sensor on that ECU there still HAS to be a reason the voltage range is so narrow, even if it comes down to being different sensor resistance or a non linear sensor or something.
I know I'm certainly interested to know exactly why

Its not the TPS differences from ecotec to buick. Have run ecotec on older ECUs and it reads perfect.

Ive had a similar problem since changing from a banana manifold to a dual plane Harrop and ls1 throttle body on my TT304 holden
