Immortalities totally random thread
Re: Immortalities totally random thread
Re Autolite plugs, in my experience they are similar to Champion plugs in that for every ok one you get you also get one that just doesn't last. You have a 50-50 chance of getting 50k or 10k out of them. I don't use Champions for that reason and autolites aren't easily available where I am anyway but when I have used them they have been hit and miss.
Re changing valve springs. Take your rockers off. Hook up an airline to a compression tester plug adaptor and fill the cylinder with compressed air (I know you'll know this but other may read this and not have a clue so I will say the valves must be sealed for this to work otherwise the air will escape and the valves will just drop into the cylinder). Get a spring compressor that attaches to the rocker stud/bolt for leverage and push the spring down, take the collets out and you know the rest. Installation is obviously the reverse of removal.

Angle iron has been the go-to option a few times in my life but I might see if I can get a more appropriate tool for the job before resorting to itslewinson wrote:Hunk of angle iron and a meter of 10mm soft rope.
Tie a socket to one end of the rope and feed the other end into the spark plug hole. Once it is all in, bring the engine slowly towards TDC and it holds the valves in place. Release the keepers with the angle iron - drill 2 holes, 1 for the rocker stud and the other for the keepers.
Simon

I used champion plugs once and went back to NGK after that. Never used Autolite plugs so figured I'd give em a go. for NZ$17 a set I won't be to fussed if they don't work out.MAGP wrote:Re Autolite plugs, in my experience they are similar to Champion plugs in that for every ok one you get you also get one that just doesn't last. Re: Immortalities totally random thread
I'm thinking of making something like this (random ebay pic) as it seems like it would be the easiest to use.

It might not be a piece of angle iron but it's close enough
I think this is what you might have been referring to in the earlier post?

Yep, with about 50cm bar on that you'll have good leverage.

yep same as that with a bar on it is what I've used in the past to get collects out.
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

I don't have any spare ecotec/L67 heads but a 3800V6 head should be good enough to mock up a spring compressor tool? (as I have a few of those lying about)

Re: Immortalities totally random thread
One of santa's little helpers left this in the mailbox for me today.

Now to accumulate all the bits to make it fit.
Also had a bit of time last night on the lathe. Should make pressing the bearing cups in a bit easier.
Cheers Dylan
