VSII Grange 350 Stroker

Post by galapogos01 »

Hi Guys,

Just wondering whether there is any support for the later VS 5.7L stroker PCMs. I have a friend who has put a cam, histall and toughened auto in his and the tune he had done a few years back has terrible idle. I wouldn't mind trying to clean it up for him. He also gets a check engine light from the trans when giving it a hard time of the line. Any tips appreciated.

Jason

Not much at this stage, but can probably put a base xdf together.
I believe the VSIII were MAF based and ran the VT V8 ECU based on info from Dr Bob's site.
Should be able to modify one of my existing $A6 xdf's to suit.
Can you get a copy of the memcal currently in it and post it up so as I can confirm before I get started.

Thanks,

Got CNPC bin ($A6F VS III 5.0 Manual) modified and ready for testing but can make that any memcal base you want. RT boards are available for the VT PCM so should work in this also.

Shouldnt be too hard to get a basic XDF and ADX to do what you want

Cheers for the replies gents!

I will try to get some photos, may be a little while to get a dump as my eeprom reader seems to have cooked itself.

He has also informed me it's a VSII not III. AFAIR it doesn't have a MAF but it's been a while since i've looked at it.

Should have some pics of the ECU and eeprom soon. I have been dealing with the Ford kit mainly and haven't done a Delco before so looking i'm forward to it :)

Cheers,
Jason

Sure it said VSIII when I first read it, must be going dippy.
If it is a VSII and a Grange it is probably based off a $84 but maybe $83 and will be MAP based. Best thing is to read it and post it up here so it can be ID'd correctly.
If it's a kalmaker or COME tune you maybe better off starting from scratch.
From here we can give you some idea of what is required to tune it.

Yep I did, sorry for the confusion!

I am still waiting for some pics from my mate. In the meantime, what is the best way to read the bin out of this thing? Should I buy an ALDL reader or just put the ROM from the memcal in a chip reader? I'll need a chip burner to reprogram the thing anyway.

Cheers,
Jason

You can read the memcal either way, using ALDL cable and VL400's flashtool or with an EPROM reader.
You're right, you will end up requiring both, ALDL for logging when tuning and a EPROM burner to write when your finished.
If you want to re-write the original chip and not socket the memcal you will also need a UV Eraser.
