either way i don't want to ever have to need it!!
Damned right you don't wanna need it. Was a passenger in a carload following another carload of mates coming back from the drags at Meremere once many moons ago coming off the Bombays onto the Southern murderway when the tailshaft in the HG prem in front let go at speed, it somehow stayed straight but tore up the floorpan, ripped up the park brake cable, split the tranny case all the way up and broke bones in the foot of one of the rear seat passengers. The car i was in got a cracked windscreen smashed headlight and was generally peppered with shrapnel. Not pretty!

You're making good progress mate keep up the good work

well i've finished the oil cooler lines .... i almost think it would have been easier to remove the tranny to get the fittings put into the side of it!!!!

speedflow sells this stuff which is "nomex/kevlar braided hose" its basically a rubber hose that has like a material type braid over it, rated to 200psi and all sorts of fuel and lubricants .... slightly cheaper than the steel braided stuff and alot easier to work with, so i went for it, thinking i might replace some of my fuel lines down the track with this stuff, the speedflow fittings are re-usable and very easy to work with aswell as disconnect if needed!

also got some fittings to allow me to keep my tranny oil temperature gauge!!

so thats me done, going to ring the tech inspector tomorrow and see when he can fit me in!

in other news, also got some smaller front tyres to use on chaser rims for the time being till i can get all four slicks/front runners ... so they are just waiting on the two chaser rims to come out of the acid tank and get a bit of paint then they'll be good to go.

I have also been priming and sanding the scoop, it was really rough around the edges when i got it (as cast) so i'm tidying it up hopefully to be ready for paint in the next few days all going well.

got the tick of approval from work for tuesday next week annual leave ..... 9:30 am tech inspection!!!! :punk: :punk: :punk:

so i had some spare chaser rims sitting in the shed and as the current front rims on the gem were all rusty and the tyres are too big and scrub on the guards, so i decided to get the spare rims cleaned up and put some cheap smaller tyres on them.

So i took them to my mates workshop and sand blasted the front of them and them painted them and i also went from 205/65/15 tyres to 185/55/15 tyres ..... i went to me mate and said i want 175 or 185/55/15 and they need to be speed rated to atleast 200kms :driving:

2 x 185/50/15 nankangs 240km speed rating for $100 each i was happy with that! and got plenty of guard clearance!

so got them all fitted up today and on the car, only problem is they are more "silver" than the rears so i think i'll have to pull the rears off and give them a spray to :P

gonna try and give it a wash over the weekend and finish primer/painting the scoop, then bring on tech inspection on tuesday!

Good stuff man! Good luck with tech next week.

Almost seems like a waste of a good chaser rim putting skinny wee tyres on, save them for some real sticky rears to play with at the track and use standard 6" rims up front, take a coupla grams off the front end and make it easier to get it up off the ground :driving:

:wtf: i thought chasers were all 7's and 6's are just common garden variety cheap as chips stockers like what i treat as expendable on 34G.

yeah well technically i believe the 15 x 7's are the only ones that are classed as chaser rims cause that what the cops use all cars that came out with wheel trims from VR onwards had the 15 x 6 ...

Well the tech inspection day is over ...... where do i start, i guess in the morning :)

i had a flash back when i was loading the car on the trailer and thought WOW that looks different to when i first got it, so just for shits and giggles i thought i'd post a pic of the car the day i got it and a photo today (just over 2 yrs later) and im proud to say i think i've improved the toughness look of the car :punk:

the day i got it home.

pleasee note i haven't lowered the car at all, the commodore wheels just fill the guards better plus there was no engine in it when i got it and now theres a 6 in the front!

ok onto the tech inspection.... i guess firstly, theres stuff i need to fix, so no passing today.

List of issues:
* DONE - Fuel hoses need to be no more than 12 inches otherwise they need to be steel or braided (i am going to replace with the same stuff i used on the oil cooler lines above) - no big deal, just $$$
* DONE - Screw fittings required on oil cooler so i will just buy a new one with dash fittings on it .... more $$$
* HALF DONE - I need to check the size of my coolant overflow, needs to be atleast 600ml, im pretty sure its 1ltr but need to satisfy him - also need to block any overflow from it to ground.
* DONE - Apparently the padding i got doesn't comply, needs to be SFI rated, so i'll check that, if its not thats a cheap easy fix, also need padding on one other bar.
* DONE - The harness straps need to be connected to the taxi bar (right behind the seat, rather than the ones further back which i put them on (no idea why but easy fix and no cost)
* DONE - Anti Dive strap on the harness (the one between your legs) needs to be slightly relocated under the floor, thats a 5 minute job with a drill so thats easy.
* DONE - I need a triangle showing the location of the battery and it needs to have a kill switch in it to cut all power to the car, that shouldn't be a big issue.
* DONE - Front wheel nuts need to be open ended ... so i'll just cut the ends off the ones i have or maybe just get new ones ... either way easy fix.
* DONE - I need arm restraints, or window net, and he reckons because i don't have a full cage it needs to be arm restraints, so i'll have to look into that, shouldn't be a big deal i don't think.

So as you can see, not hard to fix stuff, but will require some funding so its probably going to mean i wont be able to get it all done before the meeting in december, its a bit of a shame, but also i would prefer to have a good holiday in december rather than spend all the money on the car and struggle to make it to the track and holiday!

on a side note, i finally purchased a new throttle body for the gemini to hopefully sort out my WOT vaccum issue ..... i said to the bloke i'd buy this 6 months ago and i was suprised he still had it :D ... $100 for a Yella terra 70mm throttle body, never been used - i thought it was great value

Big list but not too bad, should be pretty happy with that

The roll cage padding does not comply, the new stuff is thin and much harder - meant to absorb more energy. Went through that at the start of last drag season. MSCN has the new stuff.

lol yeah just spent my night on mscn ........................................................................... $1300 should just about get me everything i need

having said that, i have gone for the better opption for some things which means more money now but less maintenance etc down the track.

like a bosch high pressure check valve to screw into the fuel pump and give me -8 outlet ... whereas i could have just got the adaptor without the valve and saved about $40 ....

also went for a screw on oil filter type of fuel filter, apparently seperates water from the fuel too ... so that was a bit of a cost but will pay for itself in the long run.

i've decided seeing how i need to have a battery isolator switch its time to relocate the battery to the boot, cause the back of the boot where the number plate goes is the best spot to put that switch and i sorta wanted to relocate the battery to the boot one day anyways so again, slightly more $$ now but will mean less to do down the track.

the one good thing is that my mate gets trade price at MSCN so i'll be getting him to get me a quote and hopefully will knock a bit off that $1300 bill.

better go ask the boss for some overtime hahahahaha

aside from that most the other stuff is just me spending some time and not so much a dollar thing so i'll get them done while im saving for the rest :P
