UPLOAD FAILED errors

Post by GTS323 »

Hi all,

I've managed to get the NVRAM installed and the ALDL cable is working, as I'm able to view the real-time dash and can also log. But as soon as I change a setting and try to commit, it gets UPLOAD FAILED errors. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. The jumper on the adapter is set to RW, so that shouldn't be an issue. I've tried with emulation on & off.

Any ideas? I'd love to get to the point where I can make changes on the fly. Thanks heaps in advance.

What setting did you change? Is this when you make the change, or are you running a verification?
Its been a long time, but I don't think the verification function is often used, and it could be that 0x2000 is part of RAM or EEPROM and maybe the verification function itself doesn't work on that PCM and nobody has tried it and reported it until now. It looks like the table you are changeing is at 4E02, so the question is what is at 2000 and does it change during normal operation....

Thanks for the reply mate.

It's if I try to change any setting or even try to upload/download the bin. I get the failed notification in the bottom bar for a few seconds. Logging etc works fine with no issue and it says it's connected ok, so don't believe it's a cable issue.

I've re-downloaded the bin, ADX & XDF files from this site for my VS 5L and tried again, still have the same issue. Is there a way to read the error codes from TunerPro? I've tried looking in Event Viewer and can't see anything there.

Yes, you can run dbgview at the same time and when it is monitoring it'll show debug messages from all apps. oseplugin outputs detailed information about the communcations there.

I think i've got it though, the penny just dropped in my head. Even though its a VS, Because its a S3 as evidenced by the A6 operating system where the description is "$A6 = VT type program modified for both VS Ute and Statesman Series III only", its the VT platform, so you'll need the jumpers set to VT for that PCM. And you'll probably need to program the NVRAM chip in the programmer again as it'll be corrupted.

Legend. Thanks Antus, that makes sense. I'll give that a shot now and fingers crossed. I'll let you know how it goes.

Mate, you are a genius. That worked straight away. I just changed the jumpers and nothing else.

Appreciate your support. I'm usually ok with computers and this type of thing, but this had me stumped! Now I'm in action, I'll see what else I can break! lol

Actually, you're right again! I had to reflash as the car wouldn't start. Once I removed the chip, reflashed it, then put it back in. It fired up straight away. I changed the idle on the fly and it worked a treat. I'm a happy man for a Sat night.

I owe you a beer or 100.

Glad it worked, excellent. VS S3 differences strike again!

That does make me wonder what PCMs the VS setting is needed for then. Yours is service number 16234531? Which is the same service number as the VT?

The earlier VS with the ECM NVRAMs don't take that NVRAM board at all, and there was a reason we put it on there. But I am no longer sure what it suited. Hmmmm.

Yeah, it seems to be a PITA with the switchover with the S3 to VT. Like a Frankenstein setup!

Correct, the service number is 16234531 - CJYN. Should I be using the VS ADX, XDF & BIN or the VT? Now I'm a little confused. I'm currently using the attached files and the car is running like a dog, but it's just on a base tune to cater for the larger injectors (650cc) and 340lph pump. I have the injector rate set to 125 to cater for this. It needs to be tuned for the centrifugal blower. It starts getting a rattle getting up to 3000rpm, which I presume is detonation. I haven't changed any other settings at this stage.

I've also attached the log file if anyone has time to look at it. I captured it this afternoon.

When you are deciding what XDF and ADX to use, to match it to the operating system on the PCM. Yours is A6F (which it says down the bottom of your screen shot). That means its operating system A6, revision F. So you use A6F XDF and ADX. If you look here: https://pcmhacking.net/memcals.html and search for CJYN you see its $A6, which means A6 operating system, but that is factory notes that don't mention the revision F. You also know the car is a VS. So when you look at the1's enhanced here viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2518 you see

VS V8 5.0L Auto PCM
(MAF, EEI, KAL)
VS_V8_$A6F_Enhanced_v0.90.zip
(65.4 KiB) Downloaded 1412 times

So that is the one you should use. It's VS, V8, Auto, and its a modified version of the operating system A6F. The bin, xdf and adx are in the zip and should be used together.
