lol yeah we are all too aware of the cost, when he was running nos on the V6 with approx. 180hp shot he was only getting about 4-5 runs out of it! we are thinking we'll try a 50-100 shot and just see how it all goes, also methanol fuel is going to change things a bit, but should just need more fuel jetting and work the same from what I've read.

Just out of interest what is a refill worth roughly ? Is it easy to get ? Wouldn't mind doing throttle in a bottle one day

well the place where I dyno my car does them, its about $15 a LB so $150 for a 10lb bottle which is what we have....

I know Sydney dragway there is a guy there that does re-fills on the spot, but never used him so not sure on his prices.

we have about half the orange bottle left of gas and then we have a blue bottle which is full :) we are hoping Saturday 3-4 runs and the orange bottle should last for that, if it does it should mean a full bottle on the sunday should get through qualifying and eliminations (hopefully to the final) :)

its running something around a 100hp shot of gas so if all things are equal its looking like it should do low 8's over the 1/8 maybe even 7's if its all really working well hahah!

so we went to Gunnedah and got that 7 :) 7.89! Scotty is very happy .... especially seeing he took out # 1 trophy in the c class eliminations!!

started out Saturday test and tune with mid 8's and a lot of missing ... when the gas was on the fuel jet was too big and it was basically flooding the motor... we didn't have a lot of jets to play with so we had a 55 nos jet and 61 fuel jet in it, and we ended up swapping them over, so slightly less fuel and more gas, end result is leaner running! and was getting pretty close and only just missing on the odd occasion....

we then went to a 46 fuel jet and that's what we ran with for the last qualifying run and the eliminations! there also wasn't really enough time to do much other than fuel up the car between elimination runs!

I'd say we will need something like a 40 fuel jet to get it really dialled in but its picked up over half a second on the 1/8th and a trophy to go with it so we are happy :) next goal is 1/4 mile and hopefully an 11 with some more refining, its 1/8 time indicates about 12-12.2 so we want to step it up as needed to get an 11!

so we've been getting the nitrous jetting dialled in and all going well on that side of things ..... we had a feeling we were getting to the limits of the NOS solenoids, so replaced them with ZEX solenoids which are rated to 250hp apparently .... the brother wanted to get a pass at Sydney to see what it did over the 1/4 and also to test the new solenoids etc, so before doing this he decided to do a test run to make sure everything worked properly.....

which it did!! then on returning to the shed we heard a rattle in the motor which I've heard before in my Gemini .... torque converter bolts were loose, so we got it up on the stands to investigate, and we found one bolt missing, and the other two half un-screwed and on an angle in the bolt holes on the converter!!

subsequent removal of the tranny to drill and re-tap holes in the converter and we found that there is a Torrington bearing visible when looking inside the converter! ..... for those not familiar with a converter, this is not normal!

so I did some research on exploded diagrams of converters, and this led me to believe the converter was ballooning ..... and on measuring it compared to a stock converter we had it appears to be 6-8mm taller than it should be, and this would more than likely explain the bearing floating around!

its done some minor damage to the stator support shaft on the gearbox, but nothing that isn't re-usable....

so it looks like its time to go to the next level with this cars converter .... the one that was in it wasn't really high enough stall anyways so we'll be sourcing a suitable stall and something that can handle the extra power of the gas.

this also got me reading about converters and nitrous, and got me thinking about how to make it work better..... it appears the fogger nozzles (from google searches) are good for about 150hp, and we got similar results, any more gas than 150hp jets and it wasn't getting leaner so we decided that it might be better to run two sets of solenoids and nozzles to get more flow and also this will allow us to stage the nos shots to give us a bit more smoother delivery and surely this has to help the driveline and motor in the long term!

so with the help of Jayme and VL400 we've done some brain storming and bench testing and we are hoping that we can have a 3 stage application of the 2 kits which will give us more total shot along with the option to adjust at what rpm/kph the gas shots activate.

so the plan is this: (note the numbers are all just examples at the moment)

roughly 3000-3500rpm converter, and stage the car with 2 step rev limiter to stop it going over 3000rpm.

flex table A drives the first stage NOS brand solenoids, activated at 3000rpm, and these will be say a 70hp shot

then at 4000rpm the flex table A will turn the solenoids off and at the same time flex table B will activate the second stage which is the ZEX solenoids and this will be say a 130hp shot

then at 4500-5000rpm the flex table A will re-activate the NOS brand solenoids as well as the ZEX solenoids still being open for a total shot of 200hp, and these should stay activated till the end of the run as the gear change rpms shouldn't go below 5000rpm anyways, and if there is a need the rpm points can be changed to suit.

the secondary axis of the flex tables uses throttle position and means that if anything less then 90% throttle and the gas turns off all together regardless of RPM.

so might be a while before we can test due to cost of converter and such but hopefully we can find another interesting use for flex tables that takes the trusty 808 that much further above and beyond :)
